With the final week of the 2018 Open over, it is time to re-evaluate our goals, revisit the basics, and attack 2018 with more tenacity, more discipline, and more virtuosity than before. What does this mean?
More importantly than “more tenacity” and “more discipline” is going to be the “more virtuosity” portion. Being able to do the common, uncommonly well. Did you struggle with muscle ups during the Open? Maybe revisit your pull ups and your dips. Set personal benchmarks. Example: 25 unbroken pull-ups + 25 unbroken dips. Increase this benchmark by 5 reps each once achieved. I recently read that the “novices” biggest mistake is underestimating/neglecting the basics and being so concerned about the more complex, higher skilled movements. You will hit a wall in your development.
As coaches, it is our responsibility to maintain safety, efficacy, and efficiency in our programming. We program for overall fitness and General Physical Preparedness (GPP). We do not program for the Regional and Games level athletes. If this is your goal, we will provide you with the time, programming and developmental progressions to help you achieve that.
We highly encourage you to write down your goals and set benchmarks for the 2019 Open. If you need help with this, please see a Coach. We would be more than happy to help you map out a plan for continued progress and overall increase in your work capacity.
